Getting fixes in isn't a problem. And fixes from other platforms will
also go in, this can only be a win. I was not familar with the old code
and I am not too familar with the new. What features did we lose? Why
did it take a dive? Considering we could put any features right back in
the new code and benifit multiple arch's why hasn't any of this been made
public before?

Nothing regarding tapes is going to be fixed by me as I have no tape drive.
If you think its important please try and debug it for us. Otherwise
it will definetly be broken for release.
